Frequently Asked Questions
Can your tool compare a scanned (image-based) PDF against a native (text) PDF?
Absolutely. This is one of our core strengths. The AI maps text coordinates from the scanned PDF’s OCR layer and aligns them with the native PDF’s text blocks, so you get an accurate diff even across fundamentally different PDF types.
How accurate is the paragraph-level alignment for multi-column PDFs?
The structural parser preserves column layouts and table structures during comparison. It matches text blocks by their spatial coordinates, so a paragraph in the left column of page 3 is only compared against the corresponding block in the other document’s same region.
Need to compare a PDF against the original Word draft instead?
If you have the original Word file that was used to generate the PDF, try our PDF to Word Comparison tool. It performs cross-format alignment between the DOCX paragraph structure and the PDF text layer for an even more precise diff.
What is the maximum file size for PDF comparison?
Each PDF file can be up to 50MB. The comparison engine handles documents of any page count within this limit. For very large documents (100+ pages), the comparison may take slightly longer — typically under one minute.
Can I compare password-protected or encrypted PDFs?
Currently, the comparison tool works with unprotected PDFs. If you have a password-protected PDF, please remove the encryption before uploading. Most PDF readers allow you to print to a new unprotected PDF as a workaround.
